Effectively Managing Outstanding Insurance Claims

Let me ask you a question, Do you like to haggle with insurance companies? Any self-respecting office manager that has experience in the dental industry will very quickly tell you,  NO!  So I’m going to propose another question,  Why do you put yourself in a position where you have to?

Hmm… This Article Looks a Little Dated

There are very few fee-for-service practices still operating today.   Many dentists, in certain communities, have to join insurance networks to help their practices survive, it’s just a matter of fact.  But just because you are obligated to take insurance doesn’t mean that you have to be broke.  It’s unfortunate but many up-and-coming office managers are never properly taught what happens once you send a claim to an insurance company.  What are the insurance companies doing to process the payment?  How long should it take to get paid?  Many young and even some “experienced” office managers don’t really know the answers to these questions.  It is only after many years of trial and error that they understand the process and by then it is too late.  Now you have to dig yourself out of a hole.  Practice-Web is designed just for this purpose, to help your office manager efficiently manage your practice and increase your cash flow.

Outstanding Ins claim report

One of the most frequently asked questions in our support department is, How do I track my unpaid claims?  Believe it or not we hear this question almost daily.  Let me introduce you to the Outstanding Insurance claim report.

This can be one of the biggest revenue generators for your practice when used properly.   One of the biggest losses of revenue for a dental practice is allowing a claim to time out. Once a claim times out you can’t resubmit and you have to write off the balance.  Practices lose tens of thousands of dollars per year just because of this.  And often we get support calls from office managers that are ready to pull their hair out because their outstanding insurance claim report is seven pages long because they only follow up on it once every four months (or longer).  We understand that you’re very busy and that your appointments and patients should be your top priority.  But, if you allow yourself to go bankrupt because you’re not collecting your insurance payments then you’re not going to be able to help your patients if your doors are closed.

The Outstanding Insurance Claim report is designed for you to be able to “work” the report without printing it.  From the report you can double click on the patient’s line and then resubmit the claim.  Realistically if you are using ClaimConnect with integrated attachments, your claims should be paid in no more than fourteen days.  So the outstanding insurance claim report will stay nice and short and you won’t have to worry about haggling with the insurance companies for hours, sometimes days.

To help you further we have updated our online video tutorial for this report and you can check it out on our tutorials page.
